Did you know? In Scotland, the word plaid, also known as kilt, is used to describe a horizontal and vertical striped wool shawl or blanket that dates all the way back to 1560. These blankets or shawls were worn by Highlanders over other clothes and taken off before any kind of physical activity such as working or fighting. Today, unlike our use of the word plaid to describe this beautiful geometrically designed fabric, in Scotland and other parts of the world, plaids are the kilts still worn to represent Scottish heritage.
